Family cars need to do it all. They need to be comfortable, practical and up to the task of daily life. But what if you want a little extra luxury thrown into the mix? That’s where we at Auto Sportiva can help, bringing a spacious and versatile car that feels a little more special than the usual. But what are your options, and what should you be considering if you’re after a luxurious family car? We’re going to be exploring everything we have to offer in this article.
Audi Q7
A firm favourite among families is the Audi Q7. A mainstay in this segment, the seven-seater Q7 has got it all to offer; there’s loads of seating space alongside a large boot and loads of pockets, cubbies and netting designed to help keep this car’s interior as tidy as can be. It’s smooth and refined to drive, too, while a good variety of engines means there’s something for everyone. Four-wheel drive from Audi’s famous quattro system makes the Q7 sure-footed in poor conditions, too.
Land Rover Discovery Sport
The Discovery Sport brings some family-focused features tied together with Land Rover’s typical no-nonsense design. While at the smaller end of the scale in terms of Land Rover’s overall range, the Discovery Sport brings a large enough boot for most occasions and gets plenty of in-car technology, too. As with all other Land Rovers, the Discovery Sport is more than capable enough off-road, with a variety of clever features helping this family SUV to keep going where others might struggle.
Land Rover Defender
But if you want the ultimate go-anywhere family vehicle, look no further than the Land Rover Defender. The revival of the classic name has been a storming success, with the Defender proving very popular among all types of drivers, but in particular those who need to bring the family along for the ride. You’ll find loads of chunky features inside the Defender, alongside lots of space for all of those essentials. Many of the Defenders that we have currently in stock feature a fridge, too, to help keep those road trip snacks cooled for the duration. The GLC has remained a core part of the Mercedes SUV line-up for a long time now and there’s good reason for its popularity. Smartly finished and packed with technology, it has that upmarket feel that you’d expect from a Mercedes but with all of the space you’d want from a true family vehicle. Essentially a raised-up version of the firm’s popular C-Class, the GLC is available with a series of smooth-running engines, including popular diesel models which can return great levels of efficiency to help make daily running less expensive.
Jaguar I-Pace
If you’d like to make the switch to an electric vehicle, then one of the most family-friendly out there is the Jaguar I-Pace. Jaguar beat many of its key competitors to the punch when it launched the I-Pace and, even after several years on sale, it still looks remarkably fresh thanks to modern styling and lots of cool interior features. There’s a dual-screen setup for infotainment and heating functions, while nearly all cars come with a smart panoramic screen, which can help to reduce travel sickness for those in the back. A range of up to 292 miles means that the I-Pace can handle those long-distance trips, too, while a 10 to 80 per cent top-up can be conducted in around 45 minutes.
Range Rover Velar
For that extra level of luxury, why not check out the Range Rover Velar. A more svelte version of the Range Rover Sport, the Velar has been designed to take on influences from a coupe, which will ensure it turns heads wherever you and the family arrive. We’re big fans of this R-Dynamic Velar as it gets sportier alloy wheels and plenty of in-car features, including a sliding panoramic roof and massaging and cooled front seats - so those up front can be treated to a five-star experience.
BMW X5
The BMW X5 has always been at the sportier end of things, but it’s still a great choice if you’re after a practical family car. Built with rock-solid quality, the X5 has loads of interior space with rear-seat legroom being particularly good. The two ISOFIX points on the outer chairs in the second row are easy to access, too, so attaching a child seat shouldn’t be too tricky. You can also get the X5 with a plug-in hybrid engine like this one which brings lower running costs and the option to run on electric-only power for up to 45 miles.
Lamborghini Urus
If you really want to take the family around in style, then you could always go bold for the Lamborghini Urus. The Urus has been a phenomenon for Lamborghini, outselling all of the Italian firm’s other cars thanks to its mix of heightened performance and elevated style. It is, of course, similar in many ways to Audi’s Q8, but gets that level of flamboyance that you could only get from Lamborghini. The 4.0-litre turbocharged V8 engine under the bonnet will undoubtedly keep little ones entertained, but a large boot means that it’s more practical than you might expect. As you can see, we’ve got loads of options here at Auto Sportiva if you’re after a luxurious family car.
