ULEZ Expansion 2023
In April 2019, the London Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) was introduced to combat air pollution in central London. As of October 2021, the zone has been expanded to cover an area that is 18 times larger than the original zone and encompasses the homes of 3.8 million people. The initial purpose of the ULEZ was to discourage drivers of high-polluting vehicles from using central London roads, with the ultimate goal of improving air quality and reducing toxicity in the city.
Will I be affected by the ULEZ expansion?
ULEZ, which stands for Ultra Low Emissions Zone is a chargeable zone within the centre of London to which, if you drive a diesel vehicle that doesn't meet Euro 6 regulations, or manufactured before 2016 then a charge of £12.50 is applied. This charge also applies to Petrol vehicles manufactured 16 years ago or more.

This zone was implemented to clean up London's air, years on a huge expansion of this is taking place on the 29th of August 2023. This is a large concern for many drivers with the zone now covering the majority of London, influencing many drivers to sell or change their cars to a newer, or greener alternative.
How far will the expansion go?
The imminent expansion extends to some parts of the M25 such as Hayes, it covers most parts of Bromley, the whole of Bexley, Croydon and up to Enfield.
What does this mean if I have a vehicle that doesn't meet the regulations?
This vehicle can still be kept and used, however, every time you enter this zone a £12.50 charge will apply. When trying to sell a particular vehicle that doesn't meet these regulations within these ULEZ areas, values will likely be a lot lower, and the chances of selling will be a lot more difficult, therefore we would recommend to sell prior to the ULEZ zone expansion.
